APTA's SLS program offers training and support to adults with developmental disabilities who are associated with regional centers, to enable them to get the necessary support to reside and thrive in their owned or leased homes.
APTA will provide our clients with information and assistance to help them make informed decisions about housing options that are both economically viable and least limiting in terms of accessibility. Given the clear lack of housing in Los Angeles and the widespread difficulties related to affordable housing, APTA will offer assistance and support in the process of locating and choosing a suitable roommate.
APTA will aid our clients in applying for generic resources, which are also referred to as low-income assistance or public assistance. A generic resource is an entity that is legally obligated to serve the general public and receives public financing to accomplish this responsibility.
APTA will provide extensive skill development training in all aspects of daily living, including essential personal care duties such as bathing, oral hygiene, dressing, grooming, and other associated tasks necessary for maintaining proper hygiene and grooming practices.
APTA will assist our clients in enhancing their adaptive skills that are essential for maintaining a quality standard of living. Instances of this phenomenon include the successful execution of tasks related to maintaining a clean and organized household and other basic chores.
APTA will assist our clients in developing and implementing a safety plan in their homes to prepare for emergencies and natural disasters.
APTA will provide training in money management skills, including budgeting, bill payment, and saving, especially for individuals who lack the support of family members or legal representatives.
APTA will facilitate the scheduling and attendance of our clients' regular medical, dental, and mental health appointments, or other appointments that they may need to attend. APTA will assist in the facilitation of medication management, the administration of medications, and the renewal of prescriptions, which are crucial to guarantee adherence to specified treatment regimens.
APTA will assist in enhancing our clients' health and well-being by providing support in areas such as devising nutritious food plans and organizing exercise regimens.
APTA will facilitate our clients' active engagement in their community and aid in their successful integration into society as a whole.
APTA will foster the promotion of our clients’ regular communication among family members, acquaintances, friends, romantic partners, and other members of the community. This is to ensure that our clients acquire the skills necessary for developing and maintaining long-term connections with the people in their support network.
APTA will foster social-recreational and leisure activities that can successfully promote the growth of peer-to-peer connections and strengthen the friendship network of our clients.
APTA will provide our clients with training in self-advocacy to guarantee their awareness and comprehension of their legal rights. APTA will diligently practice active listening and create an environment that encourages our clients to freely share their opinions in various domains of life.
APTA will provide assistance and support to individuals involved in the judicial system, including those with forensic involvement, in order to ensure compliance with court orders, probation orders, diversion plan, and facilitate collaboration with their alternate public defender, probation officer, as well as the WRC’s court and forensic team.
APTA will provide assistance and support to those experiencing behavioral health issues by facilitating their access to appropriate behavioral health treatments that can effectively address problematic behaviors, as well as recovery services pertaining to alcohol and substance-related problems.
APTA will offer aid and assistance to those experiencing mental health problems through the facilitation of access to appropriate services offered by the Department of Mental Health (DMH), including but not limited to anger management programs, psychiatric treatments, and therapy sessions.
