Personal Assistance (PA) Services

APTA's PA program is a non-medical and in-home service tailored to meet the needs of adults with developmental disabilities who are clients of regional centers and are living with their families in their own homes.

Description of APTA's Personal Assistance Services:

Completion of ADLs

APTA provides assistance to our clients in the completion of their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as daily bathing and dressing, proper restroom use, hygiene and grooming, and cooking and eating. Our assigned PA staff shall also ensure the safety of our clients in their home by providing appropriate care and supervision, including assistance with proper kitchen safety practices.

Preservation of the Family Unit

APTA is recognizes the significance of family cohesion in fostering a robust circle of supports for our clients. APTA shall support our clients in cultivating and preserving a positive and harmonious relationship with their family members. APTA shall continuously collaborate with our client’s immediate family, relatives, friends, and support networks in order to maintain their overall well-being.

Geographical Area

APTA provides PA services to clients who are living within the Westside Regional Center (WRC) catchment area. APTA shall provide PA services to clients who are living outside the WRC area upon careful consideration and staff availability.

Staff to Client Ratio

APTA offers individualized 1:1 non-medical in-home assistance to our clients. In cases where more than one staff is required to provide PA services to one client to address behavior-related issues, fragile health, lifting, and other similar instances, APTA shall provide additional staff upon approval of the regional center.

Health/Medical

APTA shall assist and monitor our client's diet plans, including guidance and overseeing the planning and preparation of nutritious meals. APTA shall also manage medications, if any, to ensure proper adherence to the prescribed timing and dosage.

Transportation Support

APTA shall provide transportation services for our clients to their planned medical consultations, such as physical exams, dental, therapy sessions, and such other pre-scheduled medical appointments. 

Identification of Back-Up Support

APTA may assist our clients and their families to identify substitute providers and services by devising an effective plan for backup support. 

Social and Cultural, and Physical Activities

APTA shall support our clients if they want to participate in social and cultural activities in their community. APTA shall likewise support and encourage our clients to engage in physical activities such as taking walks in their neighborhood, performing a range of motion exercises, and similar activities.
